Accessible performances support an atmosphere where each child can react naturally and implement their own strategies if they become overwhelmed. CDP Kids believes in working with our venue partners to make our shows accessible for children with additional sensory and learning needs by creating an environment that's universally welcoming.
Keep reading for more information about the types of accessible performance that CDP Kids supports and refer to the individual production pages to see what performances are scheduled near you.
If you are interested in seeing one of our shows but an accessible performance has not been scheduled in your city, we encourage you to get in touch directly with your local venue to discuss the options for your family or class.
Alongside each production, CDP Kids have developed visual stories to help familiarise audience members with the storyline, characters and venue before coming to the show.
You can download the visual story for free from the Access tab on the individual production pages.
CDP Kids endeavours to program Auslan Interpreted and Audio Described performances of our productions where possible.
Relaxed performances welcome children with disability and sensory and learning challenges to the theatre. We leave the house lights on (dimmed), the auditorium doors stay open, and a designated "chill out space" is created for audience members who feel overwhelmed, to take a break before returning to the show.
The atmosphere is non-judgmental and we embrace noisy enthusiasm. Audience members can also bring their headphones to reduce noise.
